Toughmet Bearings
Toughmet Bearings
Toughmet™ Bearings are machined from a special spinodally hardened copper nickel tin alloy. This process yields a microstructure with a mixture of alpha phase Cu-Ni-Sn and grain boundries. Toughmet™ bearings nanostructure is spinodal composed of very hard and also soft phases. A lubricated Toughmet™ Bearing has a max PV limit of 275,000. This PV limit is higher than any other commercial bearing bronze material. Toughmet™ does not gall to steel or titatnium at stresses up to 75% of the yield stregnth of Toughmet™. Toughmet™ does not show strees corrosion cracking in sea water, chloride, or sulfides.
Toughmet™ Bearings from National Bronze Mfg are commonly used in applications requiring a reliable bronze bearing. Applications with heavy loads, high speeds, or both. Toughmet™ bearings perform in enviroments that would shorten the life of other bearing materials.
Toughmet™ bearings have been field tested by many of the worlds leading OEM Equipment manufactures who have adopted the toughmet bearing as their bearing material of choice. Conversion to Toughmet™ Bearings have resulted in both reduced down time and lowered maintenace costs.
Additional capabilities include graphite plugging for added self lubrication to the Toughmet™ bearing product. Send us a drawing or sample. Generally, we'll have a price back to you within 24 hours.
Reasons for Selecting Toughmet™ Bearings
1. High Strength and Hardness (like titanium)
2. Low Coefficient of Friction (like leaded bronze)
3. Great Wear Resistance (like steel)
4. Freedom from Galling (like beryllium copper)
5. Great Corrosion Resistance
6. Excellent Machinability
7. Lead Free
